From the organizer:
Join us for the 2023 Downtown Akron Sakura Festival as we celebrate the coming of spring and the beautiful cherry blossom trees planted along the Ohio & Erie Canalway Towpath Trail in downtown Akron.
This year the celebration will be bigger than ever, with food, music, vendors, craft activities, and activity spots at the Mustill Store, Locks 1 - 3, Ohio & Erie Canal Park, and the Towpath behind Spaghetti Warehouse. The festival is free and open to all. Check back for more details in the coming days.
DAP will join the Japanese Association of Northeast Ohio (JANO) in following the blossoms as they emerge, and will use social media invite visitors to view their splendor throughout the brief bloom. Follow DAP on social media at @downtownakron or check back in the coming days for updates on the blossoms.
Between 2011 and 2012, the City of Akron, with support from JANO, planted more than 400 cherry trees along the Towpath Trail. Every spring, for a handful of days, the trees emerge with beautiful blooms, heralding the coming of spring to downtown.
