TCBL Recommends: Golf Courses
We love to be outside when it’s nice in Cleveland and one of our favorite ways to do that is by playing a round of golf. No matter where you live in Cleveland you are within an hour’s drive of some great golf courses. Below are some of our favorites around town.
West
Big Met - The most popular course in Cleveland, Big Met is within the Metroparks in Fairview Park. We try to hit up Big Met during off-hours, because it is very popular. Some of our most fun rounds have been twilight rounds on a Sunday night. Favorite Hole: #5 (Par 5)
Sweetbriar (Legacy) - Our favorite golf course on the westside is the Legacy Course @ Sweetbriar in Avon Lake. This course will make you hit every shot in your bag during a round but you won’t get into too much trouble if you don’t hit it well (which we do a lot). If you are looking for a more challenging round with friends or looking to host an outing the Legacy Course at Sweetbriar is perfect. Favorite Hole: #7 (Par 3)
Grey Hawk - If we are looking to switch it up on the Westside we will head down to LeGrange and Grey Hawk. Another challenging course that will make us hit every shot in our bag but is a little less forgiving when you miss. Favorite Hole: #14 (Par 5)
East
Manakiki - Our favorite Metroparks Course, Manakiki is a championship level course located in Willoughby. We usually try to sneak out of work to get a round in here when we are on the eastside. Favorite Hole: #15 (Par 3)
Fowler’s Mill - Right behind Boulder Creek in our rankings and also a 45+ minute drive. Fowler’s Mills is a championship course located in Chesterland. Many parts of this course will make you feel you have left Ohio for the day. Favorite Hole: #9 (Par 4)
Boulder Creek - Our vote as the top overall golf course in Cleveland, we will gladly drive the 45+ minutes out to Streetsboro to play this course. If you haven’t played here most of you will know it as the course you see on the turnpike coming from Pittsburgh. Always in great condition, this course is one of the longest courses in Cleveland and makes us hit shots we are not used to hitting. Favorite Hole: #17 (Par 3)
StoneWater Golf Club - A full-service golf experience isn’t just offered at private golf clubs. Located in Highland Heights, Stonewater Golf Club offers all the benefits of a private golf club without the commitment of a membership (memberships are available if you choose). Rated as the number 4 public golf course in Ohio by ohiogolf.com, Stonewater offers players a fun & challenging round of golf. Favorite hole: #7 (par 4)
Note: Little Mountain is a top-rated course but we have not played there in a while so we did not mention it on our list.
South
Pine Hills - Located in Hinckley, just south of Strongsville. Pine Hills is a hilly course that makes you hit straight smart shots. You don’t want to miss the fairway here. Favorite Hole: #18 (Par 4)
Sleepy Hollow - Our second favorite Metroparks course and also a championship level course. Sleepy Hollow located in Cleveland down near Brecksville is a very hilly course with some of the hardest greens in the area. You need to be on your game if you want to play well here. Favorite Hole: #17 (Par 4)
Shale Creek - Located in Medina, Shale Creek is just a wonderful and fun golf course to play. It again makes us hit a lot of different shots but you can’t get into too much trouble if you miss your shot. Favorite Hole: #17 (Par 3)
These are just a few of our favorite courses but no matter what skill level you are Cleveland has the course for you.
