Beethoven Piano Concerto Cycle Program 3

  • Severance Music Center 11001 Euclid Avenue Cleveland, OH, 44106 United States (map)

From the organizer:

BEETHOVEN Piano Concerto No. 1
BEETHOVEN Piano Concerto No. 5, “Emperor”
The Cleveland Orchestra
Franz Welser-Möst, conductor
Igor Levit, piano
Igor Levit, Franz Welser-Möst, and The Cleveland Orchestra conclude their unmissable Beethoven cycle with the First and Fifth piano concertos, demonstrating the extraordinary evolution in the composer’s musical language. If the First Concerto tested the limits of Classical-era convention in 1795, the epochal “Emperor” Concerto — grander, longer, and more difficult than any piano concerto to date — was fully unbound in 1811 and perhaps as Romantic as anything Beethoven would ever write.

This program’s Concert Preview lectures will be presented by Caroline Oltmanns Professor of Piano, Youngstown State University.
