Join us for the 64th presentation of the Boar's Head and Yule Log Festival, a Cleveland Christmas tradition. Although “festival” is in the name, this is a presentation adapted from an ancient custom that dates back to the 1300’s when it became a part of the Christmas celebrations in the great manor houses of the Middle Ages. The ceremony of the Boar's Head is rooted deep in pagan times when the boar was the first dish served at a Roman feast. No one knows who first planned the Boar's Head Festival, but the procession was in use in the dining hall at Queen's College, Oxford, England, shortly after the University was founded in 1340. This volunteer production, is a multi-sensory Elizabethan Christmas experience with pageantry and music that combines ancient ceremonies associated with the winter solstice and Christian traditions associated with the birth of Christ and bringing the light of Christ into the World. Performances include live animals, costumed participants, organ music, Christmas carols, a choir, audience participation, and incense.
Two performances, 2 pm & 4:30 pm. No tickets required. Free will offering. (Early performance will be ASL interpreted- reservations required)
