From the Organizer:
Presented in conjunction with Federico Cuatlacuatl’s exhibition XOXAL: baño de fuego | XOXAL: shower of fire
Join us at The Sculpture Center for Crossing Borders, Preserving Futures, a compelling panel discussion exploring the intersections of immigration, indigeneity, futurity, undocumentedness, and resistance.
Inspired by the themes and new works in XOXAL: baño de fuego | XOXAL: shower of fire, the current exhibition by artist Federico Cuatlacuatl, this conversation invites reflection on the resilience of migrant communities and the ways in which “smuggling” indigeneity across borders becomes an act of self-preservation, resistance, and envisioning alternative futures.
Panelists include:
Federico Cuatlacuatl – exhibiting artist
Jenny Gerow – Chief Curator, Akron Art Museum
Yusuf Lateef – artist
Eduardo Rodriguez – Administrative Manager and Operations Liaison at the Iacocca Institute at Lehigh University and former Executive Director of Comité Mexicano de Cleveland
Moderated by: Grace Chin, Executive Director of The Sculpture Center
Each panelist will share insights into their own creative and activist work, connecting personal experiences and practices to the broader themes of the discussion.
