Hagudeza Rullán – Fantauzzi: Mi Isla y Yo

  • The Sculpture Center 12210 Euclid Avenue Cleveland, OH, 44106 United States (map)

From the organizer:

"Mi Isla y Yo" explores the journey toward liberation and autonomy from the perspective of a kid born Trans in Borínquen (Puerto Rico). Rullán – Fantauzzi highlights the island’s storied history, including the banning of the country’s flag, and the ongoing threats of displacement and the commodification of land. Addressing how the land and the body and their connectivity are suppressed through the power of politics, Rullán – Fantauzzi recognizes the struggle to maintain a unique existence under threatening conditions. Through personal memories and imagery, this exhibition reflects on how simply existing as your true self is an act of resistance.

About the Artist:

Hagudeza Rullán-Fantauzzi [she/they] is a Philadelphia-based interdisciplinary artist and storyteller. As an Afro-Boricua Trans woman, she creates work that sheds light on often unspoken experiences, fostering dialogue and connection. Born in Ponce (Puerto Rico), Hagudeza grew up in low-resourced communities, where limited access to artistic outlets did not deter from her inherent determination to create. Over time, she developed her artistic voice through movement and visual expression, emerging as both an artist and filmmaker. Her work embodies resilience and transformation, continuously evolving as she blends different forms and pushes creative boundaries.
