From the organizer:
Take a front row seat for the Hollywood on the Cuyahoga: Northeast Ohio and the Movies exhibit grand opening! We’ll celebrate with an exclusive cocktail reception that recognizes the directors, producers, sound engineers, actors, films and individuals who are part of Hollywood on the Cuyahoga. Come dressed in cocktail attire or in costume as your favorite Hollywood Star!
About the Exhibit:
From early 20th century silent films to the silver screen of the 1930s-1950s, Cleveland was the “Hollywood of the Midwest”, turning out movie stars such as Dorothy Dandridge, Joel Grey and Ruby Dee. With the later founding of the Cleveland International Film Festival and the Greater Cleveland Film Commission, the region emerged as a center for filmmakers big and small. The arrival of the city’s own Russo Brothers, the most successful moviemakers in history, cemented Cleveland’s reputation as a cultural center for filmmaking.
“Hollywood on the Cuyahoga: Northeast Ohio and the Movies” will be a first for our community. While people are becoming more aware of Cleveland and Northeast Ohio’s ongoing role in the film industry, there has never been a comprehensive look at how this industry has blossomed into a major component of our culture and economy, generating tens of millions in local spending every year.
The exhibit complements “Ohio Goes to the Movies”, a state-wide film festival and Signature Event of America 250-Ohio in 2026. More details coming online at wrhs.org and @clestartshere
